Where Veterans Check VA Benefits and Claims Now
For years, many Veterans used eBenefits as their primary online portal to access VA benefits, check disability claims, download important documents, and manage certain aspects of their benefits. However, many Veterans who try to access eBenefits today may notice that the platform has changed or wonder whether it still exists.
So, what happened to eBenefits? Is it still available? And where should Veterans go now to check their VA disability claims, view their benefits information, or manage their VA accounts?
Is eBenefits Still Available?
No. The eBenefits portal is no longer the primary website for managing VA benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs transitioned most eBenefits features to VA.gov, creating a single online location where Veterans can access disability claims, benefits information, and other VA services.
The transition was part of a larger effort by the VA and Department of Defense to simplify the online experience for Veterans. Before the change, Veterans often had to navigate multiple websites, including eBenefits, VA.gov, and other VA-related systems depending on what service they needed.
Today, Veterans should use VA.gov as their main online resource for managing VA benefits.
When Did eBenefits Stop Working?
The transition away from eBenefits happened gradually rather than all at once.
Beginning in 2021, the VA started moving more services from eBenefits to VA.gov. Veterans were encouraged to begin using VA.gov as the central location for accessing benefits information.
By 2022, the majority of eBenefits features had been transferred, and eBenefits was no longer used as the main platform for filing claims or managing VA benefits.
Although some Veterans may still remember eBenefits from previous claims or older VA resources, the current system is VA.gov.
Why Did VA Replace eBenefits?
eBenefits was created to give Veterans online access to many VA and Department of Defense services. While it provided valuable tools, the system eventually became part of a larger challenge: Veterans had to remember which website handled which service.
The VA’s goal was to create a more streamlined experience through VA.gov.
By moving services to one central platform, Veterans can now use VA.gov to:
- File new VA disability claims
- Check the status of pending claims
- Upload supporting evidence
- View VA decision letters
- Download benefit verification letters
- Review disability ratings
- Manage certain personal information
Instead of asking whether a specific service is available through eBenefits, Veterans can now start with VA.gov and navigate to the appropriate benefit section.
Where Do Veterans Check VA Claim Status Now?
Veterans who previously used eBenefits to monitor disability claims should now use VA.gov.
Through VA.gov, Veterans can:
- See whether a claim has been received
- Track the current stage of a claim
- Review requests for additional information
- Upload documents and evidence
- View claim decisions once finalized
Veterans can access VA.gov using secure sign-in options, including Login.gov and ID.me.
Can Veterans Still Access Old eBenefits Information?
Some Veterans may still find references to eBenefits in older VA letters, websites, forums, or articles. This can create confusion because many older resources continue to mention eBenefits as though it is still the primary VA benefits website.
However, Veterans should rely on current VA resources and use VA.gov for active benefits management.
If a Veteran has an older claim history, decision letter, or document connected to eBenefits, those records may still exist within VA systems, but accessing current benefits information should be done through VA.gov.
What Should Veterans Do If They Are Having Problems With a VA Claim?
While online tools make it easier to monitor a claim, understanding VA disability claims can still be complicated. A Veteran may receive a denial, an unexpected disability rating, or a decision that does not fully address their condition.
In these situations, Veterans may need to understand options such as filing an appeal, requesting a higher-level review, submitting additional evidence, or seeking a rating increase when their condition has worsened.
